With the baking heat we've experienced over the last few weeks and hopefully more to come, it pays to pay attention to the effects the sun can have on our hair. Like your skin, your hair will respond to its environment, so in hot dry places we need to use special protection. If you hair has been damaged by the sun it can get frizzy and flyaway, so nourish it with a hair repair treatment. Apply hair balms at night before you go to bed rather than every day going out into the sun. It's always better to avoid having to do that by wearing a hat of course, or a scarf or a sunshade umbrella.
Use a mild shampoo, as there's a tendency to use harsh stripping shampoos in the summer. You can also help to hydrate by drinking lots of water, and doing a one minute cold water rinse when your hair has been washed. Be careful when swimming though, whether in a pool or in the sea, and always wear a swim cap.
The style in which you wear your hair can itself offer some help, a ponytail will protect 90% of your hair without needing to take extra measures. Getting a trim done once every three months will also provide great benefits.
